The road to successful cancer treatment doesn't need to lead you far from home. AMC now offers all of the care you need, close to home with a staff you can trust. AMC's new Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art facility devoted to helping you win your fight against cancer. See your doctor, have your tests, receive your treatment, pick up your prescriptions or meet with a counselor, all under one roof.
The AMC Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer care and treatment including: Medical Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Hematology and Infusion Therapies for both outpatients and inpatients. Bringing together state-of-the-art technology and highly trained healthcare professionals, the Cancer Center is a patient focused environment providing a full range of resources for our patients and their families.
Medical Oncology provides numerous private treatment rooms for our patients. Our approach in medical oncology is to develop treatment plans that provide care for the total patient. The latest treatments in chemotherapy are available for cancer treatment as well as other infusion therapies to enhance quality of life. Patients in need of inpatient care are admitted to our designated oncology unit that provides care for all oncology patients as they go through their treatment options.
Radiation Oncology is equipped with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator. Radiation therapy is the treatment of choice for many types of cancer. More than half of the individuals diagnosed with cancer receive radiation therapy either alone or in combination with surgery or chemotherapy. In many patients, radiation may effect a cure by destroying the cancer. For others, radiation may control tumor growth, thereby making life more comfortable for the patient with advanced cancer. The linear accelerator is designed to destroy the tumor with minimal effect on the tissues surrounding the tumor site. Each treatment on the linear accelerator lasts only a couple of minutes. AMC Radiation Oncology is operated by VaLiance Health, L.L.C. - a regional partnership among Augusta Medical Center, Rockingham Memorial Hospital and the University of Virginia Health System.
AMC Cancer Center Staff is comprised of highly trained personnel and handles the full spectrum of patient needs, from providing expert nursing and oncology care to scheduling appointments and handling insurance needs. Each member of the treatment team is a professional and is specially trained in oncology care. Team members are selected, not only for their expertise in oncology, but also for their caring compassionate concern for you as a patient. Each team member strives to meet the goal of assuring that patients receive the best care and the most current technological advances possible for their treatment. They work closely together to provide coordinated comprehensive care and treatment for our patients.
