Pediatric Preadmission Tours
Augusta Medical Center offers special guided tours of our surgical area every Thursday evening for children who will be surgical patients at AMC. During the approximately 30 minute tour children meet staff members, see a video, look in an operating room and come back to the "recovery area," all without assistance of their parents.
Seeing the surgical area before the day of surgery helps relieve the anxiety children may feel going into an unfamiliar place without parents at their side. Parents feel more relieved as well knowing their children are on "familiar territory" and in good hands.
During the trip to AMC the children can take care of necessary preadmission tests, thus saving an additional trip for the family.
If you have a child anticipating surgery and want to know more about preadmission tours, please call surgical services between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 332-4280 or 932-4280.
If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, please notify surgical services by 4:30 P.M. on the day of your appointment.
