Home Health Services
AMC Home Health Services provides medical services to patients in the comfort of their own homes. Health care provided in the home is an excellent alternative to extended hospital confinements and allows the patient's family to share in the recovery process. Almost any individual under a physician's care is eligible for home health care. These individuals may include:
- The frail and elderly
- Cardiac patients
- Stroke patients
- Patients with a chronic illness
- The handicapped
- The patient with a fracture
- The terminally ill
- The convalescing
- The new mother and her baby
Home Health Care Services include:
- Skilled Nursing
- Medical Social Work
- IV Therapy
- Home Health Care Assistants
- Physical Therapy
- Speech Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Private Duty Aide Services
AMC Home Health is participating in the Home Health Quality Initiative (HHQI), in cooperation with the Virginia Health Quality Center, that was recently launched by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The HHQI combines health care quality information for consumers and new educational resources for home health agencies to improve the quality of care for patients.
AMC Home Health continues to be focused on improving the following areas for patients we care for: shortness of breath, pain on activity, transferring and dressing. In 2004 we will be adding improvements in bathing, confusion, incontinence and management of oral medications.

Home Health Care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most other insurance companies if the care is medically necessary and is ordered by a physician.
