Shenandoah House at AMC... a Hospice Care Home |
![]() |
After years of dreaming and planning, our community's first hospice house is becoming a reality. This loving home will be an alternative to institutional care for people who are unable to remain in their own homes during their final days. The four bedroom residence will be safe and welcoming with private rooms, gardens, adapted bathing facilities, kitchen, family areas, fireplace, piano...and more. We plan to open in 2007, and will provide specialized and compassionate end-of-life care to an expected 85-100 people each year.
Features of the New House
- Four private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and patio garden area. Comfortable furnishings will also accommodate overnight stays by family members; personal items may be added to the rooms; and pets will be able to visit, too.
- The kitchen and family, dining, and living rooms contribute to the overall home-like environment, and will provide cozy areas for patients, families, and friends to socialize as desired.
- Specialized bathing facilities will discreetly enable even bed bound patients to enjoy safe and comforting baths.
- The meditation room, available for private reflection and spiritual support, will be used by patients, families, clergy, and grief specialists.
- The year-round sunroom will open out to a covered patio and beautiful gardens with meandering pathways.
Ways You Can Help
We need the support of our community to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the Shenandoah House at AMC. You can help by donating money, providing needed supplies/services or volunteering your time. The land and many of the construction costs have been donated by Augusta Medical Center. The Founders Campaign is intended to raise the monies needed to furnish and landscape the hospice house for patient comfort and safety and to help fund patient care.
Every donation, large or small, will be important to help us achieve our goals. We still have a few naming opportunities available for individuals or businesses. Thank you for your generosity to the people and families in our community who are struggling with a terminal illness.
