The Augusta Health Care Community Health Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006 Single Year Grant Awards and their funded projects totalling $165,813:
- Blue Ridge Area Food Bank – Operation Angel Food, providing daily nutritious take-home snacks for all elementary preschool programs in the SAW area
- Boys and Girls Club of Augusta/Waynesboro – Triple Play Fitness Program for Club participants, focusing on mind, body and soul
- CASA for Children of SAW – Health Care Advocacy for at-risk children in the CASA program
- Family Resource and Referral Center – 211-VA, an information and referral service, and Project Star, and F.A.C.T., parenting programs
- Healthy Families of the Blue Ridge/Valley Hope Counseling – Mental Health Services for clients of Healthy Families
- AMC Hospice of the Shenandoah – Commercial Grade Laundry Equipment for placement in the Hospice House
- Prevent Blindness Virginia – Expanded vision screening to detect amblyopia in grades K, 3,7, and 10 in all the SAW schools
- Salvation Army of Staunton - Prescription Assistance for clients
- Salvation Army of Waynesboro – Prescription Assistance for clients
- Valley Associates for Independent Living - Housing Modifications for SAW area homes
- VECTOR Industries – Support of 27 passenger van to support the transportation needs of clients
- WWRC Council of Organizations – Fitness stations for the ACE-STAR Trail on the WWRC campus

Applicants submit a full grant proposal, which is reviewed by the Foundation’s Awards Committee. The 12 recipients this year were selected from a pool of 19 applications, each representing health needs of our community that support the mission of the Foundation. The recipients were recently recognized at the year-end meeting of the Community Health Forum at Augusta Medical Center.
