Opening Of New Virginia Blood Services Donor Center At Augusta Medical Center
FISHERSVILLE, Virginia – Virginia Blood Services is pleased to announce the opening of a new and expanded blood donor center at Augusta Medical Center. The new facility is located on the second floor of the AMC Community Care Building across from the hospital, 69 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville. This center will accommodate more donors and create greater flexibility in accommodating donors’ schedules.
This new center opens at a time when AMC is seeing a need for increased donations to meet the needs of its patients. This need is driven, in part, by the recent opening of AMC’s new Cancer Center. “Blood usage has steadily increased since the opening of the Cancer Center,” says Debra Segars MT (ASCP), AMC Blood Bank Supervisor. “The donor center has three chairs now, and we are very excited about the Aphaeresis program which this move has made possible. Since many doctors specify single donor platelets for our cancer patients, this procedure is essential for AMC. We need our employees and the community to support this important program.”
Donors can go to www.vadonor.com to view when the next blood drive will be sponsored at Augusta Medical Center - sponsor code is "amc" - or for those wanting to donate at the center, contact Becky McGlothlin at 332-4526 or dial 800-989-4438.
