AMC Community Wellness

Community Wellness provides the following services to employers and their employees, small businesses and civic organizations. Services are customized to the needs of each group and are available on-site. The staff of Community Wellness is comprised of professional licensed nurses and educators, with extensive experience in disease prevention and health promotion. The Tobacco Cessation (GIFT) and Babysitting (Smart-Sitters) courses are offered to individual community members.

Community Health Programs

 

Community Wellness offers Blood Pressure Screening, Blood Sugar Screening for Diabetes and Cholesterol Screening to the community at a variety of locations throughout the year. In addition, educational materials are also available to increase the public’s awareness of chronic illnesses that plague our community. Knowledge and early detection of a problem are key elements to health promotion.

AMC Smart Sitter
This class is designed to teach youth the basics of care for children and infants. Students have an opportunity to practice feeding, holding and diapering skills and learn to entertain children with play appropriate to the developmental level of the child. First aid basics are covered and a CPR class is included. The 8 hour class is offered in various formats throughout the year.

C.P.R. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Learn this important life-saving technique in a non-threatening environment. Classes cover both CPR and choking relief, utilizing American Heart Association curriculum.

Gain Independence From Tobacco (GIFT)
These programs are for anyone who seriously wants to quit tobacco use, including smokeless tobacco. GIFT offers many techniques to handle the urge to smoke. Participants may utilize nicotine replacement treatments. Graduates leave the programs with confidence to stay smoke free. Classes are offered several times a year and individual consultation is also available.

First Aid
Be prepared to handle an emergency situation. Topics covered include wound and burn care, shock management and care of common injuries. This National Safety Council class also covers sudden illness and minor trauma utilizing hands-on techniques specific to the group’s needs.

 

Worksite Health Screening

Community Wellness provides on-site health promotion services to our local worksites. Health fairs, with biometric screenings and information, assist employees in their efforts at improving their health. Lunch-n-Learn sessions are effective at sharing information in an efficient and relaxed manner. Courses in CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne pathogens are also available on-site to meet the employers educational needs.

Community Wellness offers a number of on-going classes for the community, which are listed below. In addition, the health educators are available to provide information to community groups on any health promotion topic upon request.
